Recent Controls
We control a lot fewer birds than we get recoveries from those we ring. The details can sometimes take a while to come through to us, but here are some Controls whose ringing details have been notified to the Group over the past two years.
Most British Blackcaps winter in Iberia or West Africa. On message therefore was a juvenile male ringed in October 2009 in Zaragoza, Spain, and controlled at Rye Meads in April 2010.
This male Blackcap has not moved far, just from Rye Meads to Worthing in West Sussex; but it was four years older than when ringed as a juvenile.
A Reed Warbler ringed as a juvenile on the comparatively early date of 5th June in 2009, and so presumably fresh out of a local nest, was controlled at Rye Meads in July 2010, and so presumably breeding here.
A juvenile Sedge Warbler, ringed presumably on passage in August 2008 in Finistère, France, was controlled at Rye Meads in July 2009 presumably breeding here.
An adult male Bearded Tit was ringed at Haddiscoe Island, Norfolk, in July 2010 and so presumably breeding there, was controlled at Rye Meads in February 2011. These birds are known to wander in winter, and it's interesting to see where at least one of our winter visitors comes from.
