Our third record of Ring Ouzel and record counts of Red Kites and Egyptian Geese

Observations

Sep – Oct 2015

A new Rye Meads record count of 7 Egyptian Geese was perhaps a dubious highlight, but a better site record was the 4 Red Kites on one day. Notable waders included a Curlew, and Lapwing numbers peaked at 208.

Up to 2 Coal Tits on 5 dates was unusual for us. More routinely, the Sand Martin roost peaked at 30, and the Swallow roost at 200.

The final phase of Warbler passage included peaks of 60 Chiffchaff and 40 Blackcaps. Other passage highlights were a Ring Ouzel (our third record and the first since 1984) and another Spotted Flycatcher.

Returning winter thrushes peaked at 20 Redwings and 100 Fieldfares, and a Water Pipit was found in the Meadow.

After a period of low numbers, 145 Chaffinches were counted heading NW. Siskins and Lesser Redpolls peaked at 35 and 14 respectively.
