Some other bird ringing sites in the UK
The British Trust for Ornithology is the organisation which runs the bird ringing scheme for the UK on behalf of the Government, and conducts many other scientific studies of wild birds.
To report a ringed bird which you have seen or found, use this web site. They will notify you of the bird's origin in due course (it may take a while to obtain details depending on which organisation was responsible).
This is the blog of the BTO's Demography Team, covering the latest news on ringing and nest recording, and updated once or twice a week. It also provides links to other ringing group blogs and web sites.
The NTGG is closely allied to RMRG, with many of the same personnel involved in both groups. This group operates at landfill sites on the northern side of the Thames estuary, and rings more than half of the full-grown gulls ringed in the UK each year.

The British Ornithologists' Union is the body which looks after the British List - it scrutinises reports of sightings and decides upon their authenticity. The site includes the full current British List.
On a larger scale, the International Ornithological Congress maintains a global list of all known bird species, which is published here. There were 10,347 species listed last time we counted, if you want to remind yourself of the limited nature of your own cherished life list!
