Help to support us
The RMRG operates as an amateur study group, and is therefore self funding. Whilst we are indebted to Thames Water for sponsorship for some activities, we are nevertheless always in need of funds. We need to fund the cost of our rings, ringing equipment such as nets and traps, biometrics equipment, the ringing laboratory, site management, and so on. We need the financial support of our Friends and members.
Why not become a Friend of Rye Meads?
A Friend of Rye Meads receives our bi-monthly Bulletin, as well as the major Reports which we publish every three years. The Report contains details of ringing and observations, as well as the scientific papers published by members of the Group. Although access to the Rye Meads site itself is by permit only, you can visit by prior arrangement and see the Group at work. Minimum annual subscription is only £5.00.
Joining the Group as a Ringer
We are always pleased to welcome experienced ringers as members of the group; and we are also pleased to hear from any keen birdwatchers who would like to be considered as a trainee ringer at Rye Meads. We only have capacity for a limited number of Trainees at any one time, but do have vacancies from time to time. We will be pleased to advise you of the implications of beginning a training course, and if you are ready for this commitment and have a minimum standard of general birding skills, and are at least 16 years old, then we will either enrol you as a Trainee (if we have the capacity) or advise you where else you might be able to find a Trainer. Our Ringing and Trainee members pay a yearly subscription of £25.00 (with reduced rates for students).
