Ringing Course - 7-10th August 2008

Here is some information about the course, which is suitable for any existing ringer wishing to gain more experience as part of an ongoing ringing training programme. The course programme is presented below; click on the links on the left of the page for information on the arrangements, accommodation and administration, and for a booking form to complete and return to RMRG if you wish to take part.

Programme

Thursday 7th August
Dawn - 12:00
Setting up of sites and ad hoc ringing dependant on people available. We will be arriving and starting the setting up process from early in the morning. Delegates are welcome to arrive as early as they wish and assist in setting up nets and sites etc. There will be no structure to the morning and this is not an official part of the course, but some ringing will almost certainly take place. Please advise us if you wish to come along early and what time you will arrive; you will be responsible for your own lunch and food up to 2pm, which is the official start of the course.

Arrival, Registration and informal introductions at Rye Meads
19:00 - 20:00
Domestics, team and group formal introductions
14:00 - dusk
Some ringing will be going on although this will be limited.
20:00 - 22:00
Bar-b-q and chilling out
Friday 8th August
Dawn - 13:00
Ringing various sites at Rye Meads (breakfast will be taken in relays through morning)
13:00 - 15:00
Lunch (flexible times help yourself) rest or ringing dependant on birds available
15:00 - Dusk
Ringing at Rye Meads
20:00 - 21:00
Take away dinner
21:00 - 23:00
Various training sessions and or discussions (see below)
Saturday 9th August
Dawn - 13:00
Ringing various sites at Rye Meads (breakfast will be taken in relays through morning)
13:00 - 15:00
Lunch (flexible times help yourself) rest or ringing dependant on birds available
15:00 - Dusk
Ringing at Rye Meads
20:00 - 21:00
Stew evening meal
21:00 - 23:00
Various training sessions and or discussions (see below)
Sunday 10th August
Dawn - 11:00
Ringing various sites at Rye Meads (breakfast will be taken in relays through morning)
11:00 - 13:00
Trainers discussion on permit upgrades and feedback form completion
13:00 - 15:00
Lunch (flexible times help yourself) rest, debriefing and discussion
Debriefing and one-to-ones will take place over lunch and as clearing up takes place
Clearing up ready for departure

Note: Dependant on catching conditions there will be the opportunity to undertake ad hoc training sessions and discussions on a number of subjects (subject to demand) over the weekend, including the following:

  • Weather to ring!
  • IPMR (I Perhaps Might Record electronically!!!)
  • Net furling - when and how to
  • Putting up and taking down nets
  • Clap netting
  • Building duck traps - build yourself (well, us!) a duck trap
  • Ringing Terns on tern rafts
